Productivity Mania
Thought you'd heard everything there was to hear about productivity? THINK AGAIN!
Hello team, hope you had an ok week and welcome to the new crew apparently attracted by my flurry of NaNoBloMo writing.
There are 3 posts live in my wacky productivity series:
1. Towards a Humanistic Productivity
This is a post about what’s wrong with ordinary productivity discourse (hint: lots).
2. The Phenomenology of Motivation
Thesis: motivation is an existential issue, not a problem to be solved.
3. Bayesian Goal Updating
Goals aren’t really discrete intentions - instead, think of goals as testable hypotheses about what you should do.
What I’m reading
🙏About to finish Irvin Yalom’s The Gift of Therapy: An Open Letter to a New Generation of Therapists and Their Patients. It’s blowing my mind in a good way.
💔About to start C.S. Lewis The Problem of Pain. (Finished A Grief Observed recently, it was as good as people say).
What I’m learning
Tomorrow is the first half of the Other Internet’s “Friends as a Force Multiplier” workshop! I will be writing something in connection with that, stay tuned.

❄️ Getting ready for the winter is mostly a mental task, not strictly a physical one - trust the Norwegians on this one.
🏠 American homes are getting bigger and bigger but there still isn’t any evidence that oversized homes make people happier.

Am I wrong about productivity?
What are goals, really?
